Hello and welcome to another Friday Mailbag! I'm Dr. Ryan Shelton, and since it’s Friday, it’s time to take a look at a couple of questions from our customers and see if we can give them some advice that will help them achieve all their skincare goals! Our first question this Friday comes from Sarah in Richmond, VA.
Q: Hi Dr. Ryan! I've been very consistent with my skincare routine, but my skin is still quite rough, and I want it to be smoother. What can I do to help with this?
A: Hi Sarah! Having rough skin can be frustrating, but there are several things you can do to help improve its texture and make it smoother. Consistency is definitely a great first step, but if you’re not getting the results you want then there may be another issue at hand. Let’s take a look at what could be going wrong…
First and foremost, make sure you're exfoliating regularly. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, which can contribute to rough skin.
A great way to exfoliate your skin on a regular basis is to look for a cleanser that has gentle exfoliating properties like my Lavender Oil Cleanser!
Since you can use this twice a day, it’ll help to create a smoother complexion in no time.
You may also want to consider using a facial serum that has hydrating ingredients.
Look for products that contain vitamins C and E, as they are known to promote collagen production and improve overall skin tone and texture. My Collagen Filler Serum has both of these!
Lastly, it’s super important to make sure you’re using a moisturizer that can provide your skin with enough hydration.
The older we get, the more moisture our skin needs, and a lack of hydration could be the reason your skin is so rough.
Try adding a rich moisturizer like my Repair and Release Cream to your routine and see if that helps to create a smoother and more glowing appearance.
I hope these tips help you achieve smoother skin, Sarah!
Our next question comes from Jen in Tacoma, WA.
Q: Hi Dr. Ryan. I'm only 35, but I'm starting to see signs of aging like fine lines. Is it too early for me to start using anti-aging skincare?
A: Hi Jen! It's never too early to start taking care of your skin and addressing signs of aging. Prevention is key when it comes to anti-aging skincare, and starting early can help you maintain a youthful complexion as you age. Let me point you in the right direction and show you which products to start off with…
Fine lines are often the first signs of aging to appear in your complexion, and there are several steps you can take to minimize their appearance and slow down the aging process.
First and foremost, make sure you're protecting your skin from the sun.
UV rays can speed up the aging process and cause premature fine lines and wrinkles, so make sure you’re wearing a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, and avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak hours.
Incorporating products with anti-aging ingredients, such as retinol and peptides, into your skincare routine can also be beneficial.
Retinol is known for its ability to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, while peptides can help to boost collagen and elastin production, which can improve skin firmness and elasticity.
Having said this, retinol needs to be added to your routine slowly as it can cause sensitivities, so peptides might be an easier option for you.
My Repair and Release Cream is chock-full of peptides, so it should help with smoothing out those fine lines and preventing them from getting worse!
It's also important to moisturize regularly to keep your skin hydrated and plump, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines. Yet another reason why my Repair and Release Cream would be great for you!
Lastly, a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep can also contribute to maintaining youthful-looking skin.
Overall, it's never too early to start incorporating anti-aging skincare into your routine.
Prevention and consistency are key, so start taking care of your skin now to maintain a youthful complexion as you age!
