We love when things are “easy” but sometimes that simplicity comes at a price. For years, we’ve been seeing different versions of pore stips popping up in drugstores, but recent studies have shown just how dangerous they are for your skin.
Don’t worry, avoiding pore strips doesn’t mean you have to live with blackheads. Here are a few great ways to avoid getting blackheads without compromising the health of your skin.
Stop Touching Your Face
One of the main causes of blackheads is an excess of dirt and dead skin cells that have made their way inside your pores. Some of the dirt and buildup is completely natural, however, when we touch our face, especially without washing our hands, we’re not only adding more grime to our faces but were digging that debris deeper into your pores.
To keep blackheads at bay, or at least not make them worse, do your absolute best to keep your hands off your face. Any rubbing, touching or picking will make blackheads worse and have them appear more frequently. If you do need to touch your face, make sure you’re doing it with clean hands so you minimize the risk to your skin.
Get Serious About Cleansing
Washing your face is an easy step you can take to avoid blackheads, but if you aren’t consistent with it, don’t expect results. Most people don’t realize how quickly dirt can build up on your skin and think that cleansing once daily is enough. Experts agree that you need to be washing your face both morning and night to avoid blackheads, and using an oil-based cleanser will dig 10x deeper into your pores to remove dirt.
Using an oil cleanser has lots of other benefits too. It’s going to keep free radicals at bay, hydrate your skin, and help balance your natural pH levels which will keep skin conditions to a minimum. If you ask any skincare expert around, cleansing is the most beneficial thing you can do for your skin, especially to fight blackheads!
Use a DIY Mask!
The only thing better than a face mask to relax with is one that’s going to give your skin some serious help. Not all face masks are just for hydration, in fact, you can make all sorts of different concoctions that will provide real help for your skin, blackheads included.
One of our absolute favorite masks for removing blackheads is as simple as two easy ingredients, and you probably have them all in your home already. What you’ll need are a cup of honey and a lemon. All you’ll need to do is warm up the honey for a couple of minutes over low heat and dip half a lemon in this warm honey. Once warm, dip half the lemon in the honey and apply it to the areas of your face prone to breakouts. When you’re done, wipe it off with a warm towel and follow with your Lavender Oil Cleanser!
